Like adults, kids will sometimes have experiences or face issues that make them sad or anxious. Here are several books written specifically to help them deal with sadness, worry and anxiety.

It Will Be Okay

Written for kids facing change, this picture book uses the engaging characters of Little Seed and Little Fox to teach children that change can be hard and scary but that God can be relied on to always be with them and can even use difficult times for our good.

The Moon Is Always Round

This book offers comfort and assurance for children (and adults) in times of great sorrow and suffering by assuring us that no matter what, God never changes and His goodness is always present.

God Cares For Me

This book is written to help children dealing with sickness through a simple and relatable story of a little boy who wakes up with a fever and sore throat. Through his day of sickness we share his fears and hear the good practical and spiritual advice he is given by his parents and doctor. There are lots of helpful Bible verses and advice for parents talking to their children about illness and helping them to know that God is always caring for them.

This is a beautiful series that addresses real life issues for children through stories and delightful characters. Each book points to God as the one who understands and helps us, provides Biblical Truth tips to parents and ‘Back Pocket Bible Verses’ to help children remember and apply what they have learned. Henry Says Good-Bye deals with sadness in the context of the death of a pet and Zoe’s Hiding Place encourages us to rely on God when feeling anxious.

Most of these books are available to borrow from our Family Resources Collection at church.
